Contemporary television has undergone a massive change in quality and popularity over the past few decades. This course introduces terminology for analyzing contemporary television, including narrative complexity, seriality, character attachment, and worldbuilding. There will be concrete, hands-on exercises for use in teaching, including discussions of popular themes in recent TV.
Furthermore, the course also introduces discussions of methodologies and how to integrate other subjects for interdisciplinary projects. Series that will be discussed include Euphoria (HBO), Stranger Things (Netflix), and Severance (Apple TV+) but specific series can also be added, in order to integrate better with existing teaching.
